LOONS AMONG US!
We are thrilled to hear reports that loon chicks have been seen on David, Tilton, and Basin Ponds. The nest on the small island appropriatly named Loon Island has a nest with at least one chick, and a chick has been spotted on Basin Pond. As encouraging this news is, please give all loons the space they need. The Maine Audobon Society recommends approaching no closer than 150 feet under some circumstances, recommending the use of binoculars or telephoto lenses for the safest viewing.
